Come learn the basics about how to support a transgender child, the basic language and terminology you need to know and various non-permanent treatment options. With so much information out there and so many ways children express their gender identity and so many other children on your case load it is hard to find what information is right for your child's needs. Let this presentation provide you with the information and resources you need.

Short Bio

Latanda Salmen is on a mission to make the world a more inclusive and compassionate place for transgender and gender non-binary individuals. She has spent hundreds of hours over the last four years talking to transgender individuals and listening to what they need to have a sense of belonging in their communities. She is licensed as a Certified Social Worker in Private Independent Practice (CSWPIP) in South Dakota. She graduated from  Augsburg College (Minneapolis, MN) with her Master’s degree in Social Work. She earned her bachelor's degree in Social Work and Criminal Justice from the University of Sioux Falls (Sioux Falls, SD). She currently owns her own mental health practice in Sioux Falls.

Long Bio

Latanda Salmen is on a mission to make the world a more inclusive and compassionate place for transgender and gender non-binary individuals. She has spent hundreds of hours over the last four years talking to transgender individuals and listening to what they need to have a sense of belonging in their communities. She is a licensed Certified Social Worker in Private Independent Practice (CSWPIP) in South Dakota. She earned her bachelor's degree in Social Work and Criminal Justice from the University of Sioux Falls (Sioux Falls, SD).  She graduated from  Augsburg College (Minneapolis, MN) with her Master’s degree in Social Work in 2007. She started her career working with survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault. She then worked with the states Bright Start program helping high risk new mothers manage mental illness, improve parenting skills and reduce the stress of motherhood. She then poured her heart into working with adolescents and families in Psychiatric Treatment Residential Facilities before seeing clients in an outpatient setting. She now owns and operates her own private practice where her specialty areas are transgender individuals, LGB relationships, young professionals, creatives, intellectuals,  progressive thinkers and adolescents.
